The role of proteIn foldiNg in proTozoan infEctions: unravelling the inteRACTtome of Leishmania molecular chaperones (INTERACT)

Date: 28/09/2023 – 27/09/2025

Principal investigator: Silvia Parapini, PhD

Summary

Leishmaniasis, an endemic zoonosis in the Mediterranean basin, is closely related to the ability of parasites of the Leishmania genus to undergo morphological transformations in response to rapid environmental changes during the human stages of their life cycle. INTERACT project aims at identifying and comparing the interactome of Hsp90 in Leishmania human amastigote stages and in its promastigote vector stage. Collected data could be used as enabling tools to expand the insufficient arsenal of protein targets to develop novel and selective antiprotozoal agents, to counteract the harming phenomenon of drug resistance.
